Experience the Best Diving at Lighthouse Atoll and the Great Blue Hole, Belize

The Great Blue Hole and Lighthouse Atoll is the most popular diving tour available at Belize Diving Services in Caye Caulker, Belize. This 3-tank dive tour includes The Great Blue Hole plus additional dives on beautiful Lighthouse Atoll. Experience a fabulous, full day of diving, learn about these incredible dive sites and discover why so many people love exploring the Caribbean Sea with Belize Diving Services. The Great Blue Hole is a Belize National Monument and UNESCO World Heritage site. Diving the Great Blue Hole in Belize is a bucket-list item for many scuba divers.

The Great Blue Hole — Scuba Diving for All Experience Levels

The Great Blue Hole is the first destination of the day. This remarkable sinkhole measures over 300 meters (984 ft.) across and 125 meters (400 ft.) deep. Experienced divers can venture to the limits of recreational scuba diving to see Costeau’s giant stalactites at 40 meters (130 ft.). This profile is for experienced divers only — divers with 25 or more dives.

For those not qualified for this depth – or for those who simply want a longer dive profile — Belize Diving Services offers a second dive profile at a depth of 24 meters (80 ft.). On this dive, you will not swim through the stalactites but you will experience the drop-off and likely see some sharks.

Half Moon Caye Wall Diving

After you experience The Great Blue Hole, it’s a 25-minute boat ride to Half Moon Caye Wall where you will embark on the second dive of the day. Along extraordinary walls that drop beyond 300 meters (1,000 ft.), you’ll find colorful sea fans, giant barrel sponges, turtles, eagle rays, eels, octopuses, reef sharks and sting rays hiding in the sand flats. The caye is a picturesque Caribbean island with a bird sanctuary observation deck that overlooks a Red-Footed Booby Colony. We have lunch on the Caye and explore the island a bit before continuing our tour.

Long Caye Aquarium

The third and final dive of the day brings you to Long Caye Aquarium, a beautiful destination full of healthy marine life and large schools of fish. It’s a breathtaking destination and the perfect dive destination to wrap up a full day of diving.

These three sensational diving sites are located on Lighthouse Atoll, 50 miles southeast of Caye Caulker. This is a full day of diving and boating (two hours one way) that starts with a very early wake-up call, but it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Great Blue Hole diving is a must-see destination, but most divers say Half Moon Caye and Long Caye Aquarium are the highlights of the day.

Blue Hole – only dive BDS

BDS did a fantastic job. The website was easy to use and I would recommend booking the Blue Hole early to ensure the trip is confirmed with enough people in advance. They ask you to check in with them a day or so prior and this is to confirm you’re qualified and sign the appropriate paperwork as well as get sized for their quality rental equipment.

The day starts early, 0500 with a great breakfast before departing 0530 for the 2-2.5hr boat ride to the dive site. Worth mentioning is the dive groups are split between those who will go deep with their advanced licenses and those who can/should only go shallow – so please know your limits in advance and don’t hold up a group who only have a few minutes of bottom time because you can’t equalize!!

The price is high and rightly so. BDS are the only company I contemplated diving with here. They are professional, experienced, don’t tolerate risk taking and had good contingency plans for issues during the dives. Pay the money, it’s a trip of a lifetime and you won’t regret a thing!
